Interview

The most testing press event for me was being photographed for “Interview” magazine. There was a rack of clothes I would never normally wear – but I tried to get into the spirit of it all and particularly enjoyed a pair of stripey red and white stilettos.

There was a dinner before the main Tribeca screening, attended by Michael Barker and Carmelo Pirrone from Sony Pictures Classics (our US distributor), Esther and other Newmarket people, and John Penotti and Fisher Stevens from GreeneStreet, and various friends including Tim Robbins.

Joan looked magnificent and we walked the red carpet together, proudly holding the book of YES and enjoying each other’s company. The screening – in the huge Stuyvesant High School Auditorium, just a few blocks from “Ground Zero” – was poignant for its location. Some of the lines in the film seemed harsh, touching a raw nerve. But, to everyone’s surprise, the audience laughed even more than usual. The film’s humour stood out, in stark relief, against the tragic background of this love story.
