DOP'S & Cinematography
Dear Sally,

Sadly I wont be able to make it to the BEV viewing of 'YES' this Friday, are there any other places where I maybe able to catch a showing? The stills on this sight are exquisite.

I photograph for Birds Eye View (festival & parties etc), I also do a lot of portraiture and other press stuff, but after a degree in Fine Art photography this kind of work is making me want to return (desperately!) to a more creative & narrative form of imagery.

I have recenltly worked as a camera assistant on a short film by Susie Jacobson, which was thrilling. Would you be able to tell me how I might get more work like this with a view to working towards a DOP or Cinematography post?

All the best & congratulations on the film,

Sarah Gawler

becoming a DOP
I believe there is no substitute for just doing it. pick up a camera, any camera that moves, and shoot the way you see.
any example of interesting work, however short, will become your best passport.
for a more professional and less solitary route, how about the ShootingPeople site: http://shootingpeople.org/index.php I have just become a patron of this dynamic organisation. there seems to be a lot of extremely useful information on the site, which is constantly updated. good luck.

ps YES is opening in five cinemas across London this friday, so there should be plenty of opportunities to catch it on the big screen.
