SLOW FOOD
Dear friends,

I just read the forum again on politics, and it made me thinks about wonderful meetings with people from different countries and cultures - at the table, with some good food & interesting conversations: in Israel, visiting an arab village, sharing food, and thoughts;some tea and baklawa in the old town of Jerusalem; my first artichokes and avocados in the kibbutz; picknick in Iceland; my grandfathers lovely traditional cheesecake (Àggost) with wild rasberries in company of all the family; Sardinian homemade specialities (panfried, cheesefilled pastries drizzeled with honey) in Gent, Belgium; my husband Andrea seduced me with a wonderful Italian meal and still does; our best friends in a small village in France (Wimereux) - the wine and cheese merchant Jean-Pierre, with his family- quickly invited us to dinner and at their table I learned so many important things! - I even learned French by helping out selling cheese!: then in New Mexico our very best friends were farmers struggling on their fields with very little water. With them we discovered tamales, posole and chile in all shapes; and now last week in Seattle, a wonderful generous improvized invitation to a Pakistani dinner as a celebration for the Persian New Year. There are still many more great moments to remember.....

In our fast society I think we forget about 'the table', about sharing eachothers foods, about conversations. All these drive-throughs with people eating on the run or in their cars.... There is so much we can learn from eachother if we slow down, and listen to one another. We all need to eat!!! And thats what slowfood is all about. Education about 'the table'! http://www.slowfood.com. I remember Sally, that you talked about Slow Food in your blog. Then 'He' is a chef, and he knows! I just felt like emphasise this important part in life....

Buon appetito and 'to life'!! - Eli.

SLOW FOOD
what a mouthwatering list and a timely reminder.
when i am working very hard, long hours of concentration at a writing table, i sometimes forget to stop and sit at the table dedicated to eating. Or the frdge is empty, just half a mouldy lemon and some jam. yesterday, however, having completed the first draft of a new script i went to the market and bought a fish - straight from the boat in the morning - fresh flatleaf parsley, organic rye bread and red apples...
